L. Ron Hubbard

In addition to being the founder of the Scientology religion L. Ron Hubbard was also a prolific author in many genres.

In his essay titled My Philosophy Mr. Hubbard stated:

The first principle of my own philosophy is that wisdom is meant for anyone who wishes to reach for it. It is the servant of the commoner and king alike and should never be regarded with awe.

Just as he shared the fruits of his research into life and the spirit with more than half a million written pages, over 3,000 tape-recorded lectures and some 100 films, Mr. Hubbard shared what he learned on the subject of creativitey as well.

A classic is his humorous essay "How to Drive a Writer Crazy."

It starts off with:

"1. When he starts to outline a story, immediately give him several stories just like it to read and tell him three other plots. This makes his own story and his feeling for it vanish in a cloud of disrelated facts.

2. When he outlines a character, read excerpts from stories about such characters, saying that this will clarify the writer’s ideas. As this causes him to lose touch with the identity he felt in his character by robbing him of individuality he is certain to back away from ever touching such a character."
