What is Scientology?

I post frequently about Scientology, and people often ask me "What is Scientology?"

The best way to answer this question is by looking into it yourself.

There is a book called "What is Scientology?" that is available at bookstores and libraries.  It is also online at www.whatisscientology.org and is definitely worth checking out.

Another book I highly recommend is Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health.  This was one of the first books I ever read by L. Ron Hubbard, and it answered so many questions for me, personally.  For as long as I could remember, I had been searching for answers and finding lots of things that didn’t work.  Here for the first time I encountered something that shed light on what was really going on around me and with me.

There are many good sites with factual information on Scientology.  The ones I like best are:

The Official Scientology Site

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Site

Scientology Effective Solutions web site

Scientology: Theology and Practice of a Contemorary Religion

There is also a speech by Mr. David Miscavige called This is Scientology which can be read online, and gives a very excellent overview of the subject.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Thanked by Local Officials

Nearly a thousand Scientology Volunteer Ministers from around the United States and from as far away as Argentina flew in to New Orleans, Baton Rouge and other towns in Louisiana and Mississippi last summer to help the local residents recover from the shocking effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Katrina also laid waste to the Church of Scientology Mission of New Orleans.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site carries a story today about the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology Mission of New Orleans this week.  Here’s an excerpt from the story.

It seemed like Mardi Gras all over again, when a Dixieland jazz band led a procession into the newly reopened Church of Scientology Mission of New Orleans on Saturday. Gretna Mayor Ronnie Harris, Don Hutchinson, the Economic Development Director for the City of New Orleans and Commander Mark Dupuis of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department joined local Scientologists to celebrate the occasion.

This Scientology Mission has a special significance to residents and officials of New Orleans and neighboring towns, as it is a reminder of the help hundreds of Scientology Volunteer Ministers brought to the area when two of the worst hurricanes in the history of the region hit the city in rapid succession.
